My article in @the.scotsman today argues that by disregarding the contribution #design makes to our society and economy, we're missing our chance to take our place in the world as a design nation and failing to capitalise on a major asset. #scottishdesign #designculture #designnation #contemporarydesign #designpolicy #designcurator
Was so busy and excited I didn't manage to take any photos of my sister's wedding or the flowers and decorations we spent all of Friday setting up 😌 just some little incidentals of me and dad at the Botanics and Monday morning scent of eucalyptus and freesia 😍 will just have to hope everyone else took lots of pictures! An amazing day that flew past so fast with the most fantastic and touching speeches and unforgettable moments of laughter, crying, dancing on the terrace with Havana Swing and the loveliest people around 🕊️🕊️🕊️💐💐💐🍰🍰🍰🍾🍾🍾
Opening tomorrow: Dundee Design Festival 2019 @designdundee A bunch of design obessives bring you all of their love and enthusiasm for design and the power of its systems and tools to empower people to speak, act and be heard. Bloody delighted to participate at Dundee's Keiller Centre where Manager Angus and his team - special shout out to Jim! - have welcomed and helped us all. Thanks to @rootsfurniture + @__draff__ for making my 'drawings' real including my barely concealed homage to Sottsass 💗 Can't wait for the party and to see what you all think! Pictured is a wee unit designed by me for Festival curators @agencyofnone Thank you for including me / @localheroesdesign in this amazing and ambitious project! First up tomorrow at #SUBJECTTOAVAILABILITY is @steph.liddle 🏄🏼♀️✌️
As part of the Afterworks Programme at this month's @designdundee Design Festival, I've been working with the team to create a once-in-a-lifetime design themed gameshow (this is gonna take my Linkedin profile next level 😋) ⠀ We've smashed together the best of multiple gameshow formats to bring you a very special, Dundee and Design themed event which takes place at the famous Arctic Bar, part of the Keiller Centre where everything is kicking off on Tuesday 21 May.⠀ ⠀ The gameshow is from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday night (23rd) and it's FREE but ticketed - you can book tickets now at https://2019.dundeedesignfestival.com/event-entry/the-design-gameshow/⠀ ⠀ Take a raffle ticket on entry to be in with a chance of being a gameshow participant or simply come along as an audience member and enjoy this high-stakes, psychological rollercoaster of an event where points win design prizes!⠀ ⠀ Photo by @kathrynrattrayphotographer 😎⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #DDF19 - Keiller Centre - 21–28 May⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ #itsgoodbutitsnotright #nomorespinningjustwinning #comeondown #thepriceisright #whowantstobeabijillionaire #designdundee #dundee #design #fragrance #future #liveable #loveable #city #keillercentre #festival
Writing an article about Japan and design culture and getting nostalgic about my experiences in Japan. This is, I think, the nicest little craft shop in Tokyo in the Ginza district. The owner is an elderly gentleman with whom I had a very lovely conversation with despite my not knowing much (any) Japanese and his English being quite limited. Some souvenirs from here will feature in my new show at The Suttie Art Space in July. More on that soon 🎎🎑 ⠀ #designcurator #designculture #japanesecraft #souvenirs #treasures #tokyo #takumi #happiness #nostalgia #sentiment
Really proud and happy to share this photo by @kathrynrattrayphotographer that I styled with items from fragrance design studio @arboretum.lab (led by the lovely Clara Weale) 🌱. It's to promote the upcoming @designdundee festival where Arboretum and designer Pete Thomas @theotherwork are using scent to encourage hopeful futures in their performative exhibition Approaching Air. Positive stories about life in #Dundee in 2039 will be synthesised, interpreted and formulated into a bespoke scent. During the festival, 100 limited edition samples of the scent will be dispensed. These will be shared with participants who will be invited to experience the Approaching Air. Dundee Design Festival 2019 takes place at the Keiller Centre 21-28 May. Plan your trip now - it's going to be AMAZING! "Currently the relationship between designer, scent and ‘consumer’ is often commodified and reflective of brand and brand identity. We want to challenge this and re-consider the role of scent as an articulation of, and catalyst for, ideas, values and emotions in both culture and design. Preferable futures provide a platform for people and communities to express the kind of realistic and meaningful futures they would like. By articulating these needs and desires, they enable policy makers to better understand these communities." #stylist #designcurator #scottishdesign #dundeedesignfestival #ddf19
